Quick answer
Book a HydraFacial if you want a deep clean with hydration and a fresh look, with little downtime. Book a medifacial if you have one clear concern, like tanning, oily skin, dullness or mild acne, and want a facial built around it. For the festive season, plan either one a few days before your big evening.
Why the timing matters during Navratri
Nine nights of garba and dandiya mean late nights, heavy makeup, sweat and plenty of sun on the way to pandals. Then Dussehra arrives and Diwali is just over two weeks later. Skin gets clogged, dry and tired quickly in that stretch.
A clinic facial can help reset it. The key is choosing the right type and timing it so your skin looks calm, not red, on the day that matters.
What is a HydraFacial?
A HydraFacial is a machine-based facial that works in a set sequence using a vortex suction tip. A session usually takes under an hour, and it:
• Cleanses and exfoliates to lift dead skin and surface oil.
• Uses a mild acid solution to loosen debris in the pores.
• Extracts blackheads and congestion with suction instead of squeezing.
• Hydrates with serums that contain ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and antioxidants.
Because each step is gentle and standardised, it suits many skin types, including some people with sensitive skin, though a skin check comes first. Many people go back to their day soon after, and any mild redness usually settles within a few hours.

What is a medifacial?
A medifacial (medical facial) is a facial planned around a specific skin concern after a skin assessment. Instead of a fixed sequence, the products and steps are chosen for your skin. Common types include:
• Hydrating or barrier-repair facials for dry, tight or dull skin.
• Clarifying facials with salicylic acid for oily skin, blackheads and mild acne.
• Brightening or de-tan facials with ingredients like vitamin C, kojic acid or a light peel for sun tan and uneven tone.
• Calming facials for redness-prone or reactive skin.
A HydraFacial is one kind of medical-grade facial; a medifacial is the wider category. See the options on our medi-facials in Pune page.
HydraFacial vs medifacial at a glance
1. How It Works
- HydraFacial: Uses fixed, machine-led steps, including cleansing, peeling, extraction, and hydration.
- Medifacial: Uses customized steps and skincare products to target specific skin concerns.
2. Suited For
- HydraFacial: Congested, dull or dehydrated skin that needs a refresh.
- Medifacial: Tanning, oiliness, mild acne, uneven skin tone, and dryness.
3. Session Time
- HydraFacial: Usually under an hour.
- Medifacial: Varies with the treatment planned.
4. Downtime
- HydraFacial: Little downtime, with mild redness that usually settles within a few hours.
- Medifacial: Little to some downtime; slight peeling may occur if a chemical peel is included.
5. When to Book Before an Event
- HydraFacial: Ideally a few days before the event.
- Medifacial: Ideally several days before the event, or about a week if a peel is included.
6. Suitability for Sensitive Skin
- HydraFacial: Generally suitable for sensitive skin, depending on the products and treatment settings.
- Medifacial: Can be suitable when products and procedures are carefully selected for the skin's sensitivity.
Which one should you choose?
Choose a HydraFacial if…
• Your skin looks dull and congested but you have no single big concern.
• You want a facial close to the event and a lower likelihood of redness.
• You have blackheads on the nose and chin and want them cleared without squeezing.
Choose a medifacial if…
• Sun tan from outdoor garba and shopping is your main problem.
• Your skin is oily with small breakouts, or very dry and flaky.
• You want a plan that the doctor can repeat or adjust over a few sessions.
Not sure?
That is common. At The Skin Firm, the team checks your skin first and then suggests the facial that suits it. If you have painful acne, a rash or another skin condition, you may be advised to treat that first. See our page on acne treatment in Pune.
How to time your facial for the festive season
• About a week or more before: a window for a stronger chemical peel or laser toning, if the doctor advises one.
• A few days before: a medifacial, especially a brightening or clarifying one.
• Closer to the event: a HydraFacial or a simple hydrating facial.
• The day before: nothing new. Moisturise, drink water and sleep early.
Aftercare for the first 48 hours
• Skip makeup until the next day if you can.
• Use a gentle cleanser and a plain moisturiser.
• Wear sunscreen every day, even for short trips outside.
• Avoid scrubs, retinol, waxing, steam rooms and swimming for 48 hours.
• After late garba nights, take makeup off properly before bed.
Who should check with a doctor first
Tell the team before your facial if you are pregnant, have active cold sores, a sunburn, open cuts, eczema or rosacea, or are using isotretinoin or a prescription retinoid. Some steps or products may need to be changed or skipped.
