The dark spots on the face are annoying because of one particular reason; they seem like they can be corrected with the help of the appropriate serum, but it is not usually the case. It is not that serums are useless. Since the patches are penetrating deeper into the skin than the majority of topical products can.
The Melanocytes are cells that produce pigmentation. By excessively producing melanin in response to a stimulus, whether that is hormones, UV, or inflammation, patches and spots, or a general unevenness of the appearance are produced, making the complexion appear dull and aged.
At The Skin Firm, we specialise in advanced pigmentation and melasma treatments that go beyond covering up the patches we target the root causes to restore clear, even-toned, radiant skin.
Brown, grey, or tan patches on the face
Uneven skin tone or blotchy appearance
Dark spots after sun exposure
Pigmentation on cheeks, forehead, or upper lip
Stubborn marks that worsen with heat or hormones
Skin that looks aged or dull due tuneven tone
Melasma
Melasma is the most common facial pigmentation condition in Indian women. Brown, grey-brown, or tan patches on the cheeks, forehead, upper lip, and nose. It has a strong hormonal connection, appearing or worsening during pregnancy, on oral contraceptives, or around perimenopause. Sun exposure drives it significantly.
Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation
Darkening that follows skin inflammation. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation after acne is the most common form, leaving a dark mark long after the pimple has gone. PIH is more persistent and more visible in Indian skin tones than in lighter skin because the melanocytes respond more intensely to inflammation.
Sunspots and Solar Lentigines
Cumulative UV spots on the skin form discrete and brown spots which are discrete. More widespread since the middle of the 30s. Solar lentigines respond well to specific treatment but relapse without regular sun protection, and thus maintenance is as significant as the first course.
Uneven Skin Tone and Tanning
The process of UV-induced darkening and tanning cannot be confused with pigmentation conditions but is often treated as one. They react better to treatment and can be treated much better with daily SPF as compared to true melasma.
Melanocytes that generate the patches are not destroyed and are hormone sensitive. The patches are much lighter with melasma treatment; however, when the trigger is active, such as the oral contraceptives, continued exposure to UV light, or hormonal changes, the patches are likely to relapse.
This is not a failure of treatment. The combination of clinic visits, regular sun protection, and a home maintenance routine is an effective way of managing melasma. The patients who believe that it is a one-time solution and forget about SPF are the ones who appear back after six months with the question of why it came back.

Chemical Peels for Pigmentation
Peels used in medicine cause the shedding of the topmost layers of the skin, where the melanin has built up. Mandelic acid is suitable for Indian skin because it penetrates slowly and evenly, and also it has less tendency to reactive darkening than the stronger acids.
Laser Treatment
The Q-switched Nd: YAG laser is the most common melasma treatment laser for Indian skin. It attacks surplus melanin and breaks it down without causing harm to the surrounding tissue. The sessions are separated by three to four weeks.
Medi-Facials for Skin Pigmentation
Medi-facials are advanced, dermatologist-designed treatments that target uneven skin tone and dark spots. They help exfoliate dead skin cells, boost cell renewal, and restore a brighter, more even complexion with minimal downtime.
Topical Medications
Prescription creams and serums containing active ingredients like retinoids, vitamin C, and skin-lightening agents help reduce pigmentation at the source. Regular use improves skin clarity and prevents new discoloration from forming.
LED Therapy
LED light therapy uses specific wavelengths to calm inflammation and reduce excess melanin production. It is a painless, non-invasive treatment that supports overall skin healing and enhances radiance.
Combination Treatments
A customized mix of treatments—such as medi-facials, topical solutions, and LED therapy delivers more effective results. This approach targets pigmentation from multiple angles for long-lasting, visible improvement.

UV exposure, even on overcast days and through glass, stimulates the melanocytes, driving the pigmentation. Pune summers are intense in UV load, which is why SPF guidance is a core part of every melasma treatment plan at the NIBM and Mohammed Wadi clinic. The formulation and application method are discussed at every consultation, not just the instructions to wear it. Treating melasma clinically while skipping sunscreen is working directly against the results.
Minimal Downtime - most clients resume activities the same day
Mild Redness or Peeling - may last a few days depending on treatment
Sun Sensitivity - strict sun protection required for best results
Gradual Results - pigmentation lightens progressively with each session
Apply sunscreen daily without fail
Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning
Pause retinol/strong actives for 3-5 days
Use a gentle, hydrating cleanser
Stay consistent with dermatologist-recommended skincare
